History
The Department of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus was built up recently with great potentialities. Dr. David Smith, a famous Canadian strabismus specialist, has been cooperating with us since 1999 and made a lot of contributions. The young doctors develop quickly with the direction of Prof.He Feng-Ru, a well-known pediatric ophthalmologist. With the support of the directors in the TMUEC, the Department of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus widened its services into a screening program of neonatal eye disorders in cooperation with Tianjin Women and Children Health Centre. Participating in this project in turn improved the quality of neonatal eye care of the TMUEC. The paediatric ophthalmologists are also actively involved in research work, education programs and international cooperation in order to provide highest quality medical services to children and adults. We hope that the Department of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus have a brilliant development in the future.
Faculty experts and team
The head of department was Dr. Qian Xuehan.He is currently working in Tianjin Medical University Eye Hospital as a senior consultant doctor and is also the director of emergency department. Member of strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology group, Chinese medical association of ophthalmology; International member, American academy of strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology (AAPOS); Member, Asia Pacific Strabismus and Pediatric Ophthalmology Society (ASPOS). In 2004, he obtained a doctor's degree in ophthalmology from tianjin medical university, and was sent by the government to the United States for further study of oblique amblyopia and other binocular vision diseases. Participated in and completed 2 national natural science foundation projects, undertook and participated in 6 provincial and ministerial projects, and published more than 20 academic papers.In 2017, the study on the risk factors of oblique amblyopia in autistic children was awarded one of the top 10 scientific and technological advances in the field of strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology in China
